Insect mesh and security mesh look similar but do different jobs. Insect mesh is a fine screen that stops bugs while letting air through. Security mesh (our FreshSteel system) uses 304 stainless steel for a much stronger barrier. Here is when each one is the right choice.

Choose insect mesh if
- You mainly want mosquitoes and flies out
- The window is on a higher, quieter floor
- You want the lowest cost that does the job
Choose security mesh if
- You want a stronger barrier on a ground or low floor
- You want a grille and an insect screen in one panel
- You have pets or children and need more strength
- You are upgrading or replacing a window grille
Most homes only need insect mesh, and we will say so rather than upsell you. Security mesh is worth it on ground-floor openings or when you want a grille-and-mesh panel in one. We match the product to the opening.

Usually not. On a quiet high-floor window, insect mesh does the job. We use FreshSteel security mesh where the extra strength is genuinely needed.
A 304 stainless steel mesh panel can act as a grille-style barrier and an insect screen at once. We confirm the product and fixing for your opening and what it is rated for.
For cats we use the stronger FreshPet cat-safe mesh, not standard insect mesh. For a tougher barrier still, FreshSteel security mesh is the option.
